Terms of window description

This chapter describes terms of system window elements (see next table).

“Menu”

Quotation-marks “” are used to mark menu item, a name of menu item will be written between the quotation-marks.

‘Value’

Value to choose or to enter in the field will be written between two apostrophes.

{Field}

{Drop-down list}

The parenthesis {} will be used to mark the data of the field, the name of field will be written between the parenthesis.

Those parentheses also will be used to mark the drop-down list. The user will be able to choose one value from the list.

If the drop-down list is inactive, the single value will be displayed. If the drop-down list is active, the user can select one value from the list.

¤ Radio button

A radio button will allow the user to choose only one value of a predefined set of options.

Radio buttons will be arranged in groups of two or more circulars. Those circulars will be displayed as a list of circular holes. If the circular is selected, in the middle will be shown dot. If the circular is unselected, it will contain white space. When the user selects a radio button, any previously selected radio button in the same group becomes white spaces. Selecting a radio button can be done by clicking the mouse on the button, or the caption, or by using a keyboard shortcut.

þ Check box

A check box will allow the user to select one or more values from the number of options. The check boxes will be shown on the screen as a square box that can contain white space (for false) or a tick mark or X (for true).

[Button]

The angle brackets [] will be used to mark window buttons, the name of button will be written between angle brackets.

Link

The underlined text will be used to mark links. The link is activated by clicking it with left mouse button. Usually link allows accessing a specific functionality of a system or opens the window of other system.
